Blog Four: Diary and Face book. By Tee2013

“Even in a public venue, diarists do not typically advertise that they are adopting a disclosing attitude towards overhearers—doing so would compromise the ‘authenticity’ of the reading experience by reminding readers of the diary’s public setting” (McNeill, 2012, p.322).

Keeping a diary  is an  individuality, a possible way of life, and a means to accompany a time of one’s life. The uses a diary   are similar genre to that of Facebook I believe, they are both socially based, a construction of a narrative identity, setting of the time, a liberation of oneself, an introspection of the inner- self, a support seeker, an organization of thoughts, the pleasure of writing,
(Van Luyn, 2013), but the only difference between them are; diaries are more a biographical narrative, still more detailed, more personal, private with the sole comfort to observe yourself (diary Owner)  and you are  the only reader of this narrative. The diarist can hide his private notebooks and has a right and the freedom protect his/her  writing, he/she gives off a speech and writing that is not inclusive, but  that which still contributes to the affirmation of  his/her identity.(McNeill, L. 2011,p. 315).

Facebook on the other end is heavily inclusive and visited, implying that it more or less important for to our public image, an exposition of thyself  for the world to see what you are doing, said, and mark online, it allows you to talk, chat, celebrate events, publish photo albums, have friends and visits their page, here precisely lies the essential difference, the link system connecting friends of friends, the ratio contacts and it implies that these contacts can see you. Facebook is offering a new testing of stories of the’’ self’’ and is a control tool of power.

  1. I really really could not have said this better myself, it is well structured, clear and precise. You explain each point very fluently and linked each idea to the next seemingly without flaw. A diary is ones personal account of their life from their own view, it is purposefully detailed for recount at a later date and is designed to be private. You explained it perfectly. If Facebook was as extensive and detailed as a diary entry nobody would have any friends whatsoever...
